The women's podium: Maria Debari, Macy Price and Kelly Underwood. Tied for third place: Desiree Melancon The Dirksen Derby took place for the fifth time in a row on December 17 and 18 in Oregon, USA (see news from December 12). Austin Smith has been to all previous derbies and is amazed at how many snowboarders took part this year: "It's just incredible to see how the event has grown over the last few years." According to founder and namesake Josh Dirksen, dozens of helpers worked on two tracks with a total of 26 turns. He organizes the event to support his friend and ex-snowboarder Tyler Eklund financially with the proceeds, as he has been paralyzed since a snowboarding accident: "I love to see Tyler happy. Everything else is a bonus." You can find more information, pictures and the rankings here: www.espn.go.com
