This weekend, bikers from all over the world will be flying through the Thun ice rink, over scrapped cars and even over an airplane. Among those taking part are last year's winner Thomas Genon and his challenger Nicholi Rogatkin, who is taking part in Swatch Rocket Air for the first time this year.Bike park as scrapyardFor this year's Swatch Rocket Air, the Thun ice rink will be transformed into a scrapyard for once. In keeping with the junkyard theme, elements from the scrapyard will be integrated into the course. The small airplane integrated into the course will certainly be an eye-catcher. Course designer Ramon Hunziker is excited: "The riders can jump over the plane or even touch the fuselage with their wheels. I'll leave it up to the drivers' creativity what else happens."In addition to a new theme every year, the course is of course always optimized to offer the drivers and spectators new attractions and challenges. This year, Nicholi Rogatkin will be taking on these challenges for the first time. The American rode to first place at the Vienna Air King and can certainly be considered a favorite at the Swatch Rocket Air. He himself is really looking forward to taking part, as he has heard nothing but the best about the event from all sides. "I was jealous of the other riders when I watched the live broadcast last year," says Rogatkin. On Friday, he and his colleagues will present Team US, which will have to prove itself against last year's winners, Team Canada. The biggest challenge, however, will be the duel against Thomas Genon. The Belgian won the Swatch Rocket Air here last year and will be competing again this year. However, Rogatkin only feels more motivated by this: "We always push each other to do crazier tricks and more spectacular runs. I'm looking forward to riding against him and seeing what he'll show this time." In addition to the prize money of CHF 10,000, the Swatch Rocket Air also offers a wildcard for the FMB Diamond Series event Swatch Prime Line. An additional incentive for the participants from over 15 countries.Side events: wallscrapersIn addition to the spectacle in the ice rink, the Rocket Air also has a lot to offer outside the ice rink. Like-a-Bike Race, Pumptrack Race and BMX Flatland Shows will provide spectacle next to the ice rink. A major highlight will be the Wallscrapers, who will perform their acrobatics on the trampoline. The runners-up of this year's show of Switzerland's greatest talents are looking forward to their performance at the Swatch Rocket Air. "We're all thoroughbred gymnasts, but we're also into all kinds of extreme sports," says Tobias Ernst from the Wallscrapers. "That's why we're particularly pleased to be part of an event like this." It is quite possible that they will steal the show from the bikers at their performance.True Fan TicketFor true fans over the age of 16, there is a special ticket this year.
