Abstinence

It means not having sex (also known as abstinence). Some people voluntarily choose to live a life without sex. Nuns, monks and Catholic priests must observe celibacy. This means that they are not allowed to marry, satisfy themselves or have sexual relations. Abstinence is actually a general term and can also refer to a life or phase of life without alcohol, drugs, smoking etc. or even without sex. Abstinence does not mean the same thing as asexuality.
