AIDS test

It should really be called an HIV test, because the test can only detect an HIV infection, but not the resulting disease AIDS. Nowadays, there are various types of HIV tests that can determine whether a person is infected with the HI virus - this is then called HIV-positive. If you have not been infected, you are HIV-negative. The timing of the test is important for the reliability of the result. This can be done with a blood sample or a mouth swab. There are also rapid tests that can provide results within a few minutes. You can get advice from doctors, specialist and test centers, or regional AIDS service centers.
