Herpes

Herpes is a disease caused by a virus. There are two types of herpes: herpes simplex type 1 and herpes simplex type 2. Type 1 often causes blisters on the face, while type 2 often causes blisters in the genital area. Type 2 is also called genital herpes. If you have herpes, you can get recurrent flare-ups in which the blisters reappear. There are medications that can help to shorten the flare-ups and reduce the risk of infection.
