Pearl Index

The Pearl Index is a statistical value that indicates how safe a particular contraceptive is. It measures the risk of a woman becoming pregnant over the course of a year if she uses the contraceptive consistently and correctly. The lower the number, the safer the contraceptive method. A Pearl Index of 0 means that no pregnancy has occurred. A Pearl Index of 1 means that out of 100 women who have used this contraceptive for a year, one woman has nevertheless become pregnant.
