Period

The term period refers to the monthly bleeding that women have (also called menstruation, the "days" or the "period"). During the period, the woman's unfertilized egg and the remains of the uterine lining are flushed out of the uterus with the menstrual bleeding. On average, periods take place every 28 days, although this can vary, especially in young girls (cycle lengths of 25-35 days are considered normal). A woman loses a total of around 150 milliliters of blood over 3-7 days during each menstrual period. Some women experience varying degrees of physical discomfort and mood swings before and during their period, which are related to the hormonal changes associated with the cycle.
