Sex hormones

Sex hormones, also known as sex hormones, are hormones that are mainly produced in the ovaries and testicles. They are responsible for growth and sexual development during puberty. They are also necessary for reproduction. Sex hormones are generally divided into male (androgens) and female (oestrogens and gestagens). The ovaries and testicles produce both sex hormones, but in different proportions. Androgens (e.g. testosterone) predominate in males, while oestrogens and gestagens (luteal hormones) predominate in females.
