Question submitted for topic Contraception

Should I take the morning-after pill? And does it also work if I’m overweight?

Hello Corinne,

I had sex with my boyfriend the night before yesterday. Unfortunately without a condom at first, but then with one. He didn't come inside me. Apart from that, I don't use any other contraception. Should I still take the morning-after pill? I'm unfortunately overweight, so the question is, does it even work for me? I weigh just under 90 kg and have heard that it doesn't really work from 75. I really don't want to get pregnant at the moment.
LG,
Christina

Hello Christina

Great that you are writing. The risk of getting pregnant if the penis has only penetrated you briefly without a condom is not very high, but it still exists. So if you don't want to get pregnant, I would take emergency contraception as soon as possible. Body weight has no influence on the effect.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch.
